Events Triggering Food Cravings

David and I went to the Kings preseason game tonight at the Staple Center. The Kings played the San Jose Sharks and lost 1-3. It's preseason...who cares.

So as I was sitting at the game I really wanted a hot dog and then chili cheese fries. Well I didn't have enough calories for a hot dog, but I did sneak an Almond Snickers bar in with me, so I would feel like I was getting to eat at the game. I fit the snickers into my calorie plan. I had a few of David's peanuts, but also had enough calories for them as well. But back to the hot dog and chili cheese fries. I noticed that I always crave these two things when we go to hockey games, and why is that? I figured it out...because we use to always go to Del Taco after the game for chili cheese fries and burritos. Since I started WW in April 2005 , we cut that out, but it's still in my head and hockey triggers it. Isn't it funny how certain events or things we do go along with certain foods? I'm beginning to wonder if Vegas is going to be that easy. I can already see my mind saying fuck it, lets get a pizza. I hope I have a little will power. Oh just so you know the whole reason we are going to Vegas is for hockey. That's right..we are following the Kings there for another preseason game, and David is playing in a game on Friday night. How will I resist the hot dogs especially since my mind will be in vacation mode. I am definitely getting the exercise in. David even said maybe we could look into the gym at our hotel for me to use. I have to see how much extra it will cost. Ohhh obsessions.

Okay now all of that being said I would like to leave you guys with a tip from my "The Secrets of Skinny Girls " book.

"If something is healthy but you don't like it, there's no point in stocking your refrigerator with it- it will never be the food you grab when you have the munchies. You may have the best of intentions, but that may not be enough. Set yourself up for the success by stocking the foods you really like. I may love broccoli, but if it's not your thing, it doesn't matter how healthy and low-calorie it is- you won't grab it at the critical moment when you need to fend off a craving. "

Isn't that so true? So listen up ladies... (and guys) stock your refrigerators up with healthy and low calorie food that you already love. Be creative and try new fruits and vegetables. You may just find a new love and addiction! :)

Isn't it funny how your brain works...we go do something and automatically our brain is making us remember and crave certain foods. It can be so evil!!

I hope you have a fantastic time on your trip Hun, and don't worry so much about what you're going to do - I think if you freak yourself out about it too much it's going to be worse. You know how to eat healthy, and that doesn't mean you have to cut out all the yummy food in the world. Have that pizza, just only have one slice... don't deprive yourself - just be reasonable, ya know? I'm gunna miss you! ~huggers~

If I go to the movies I think I should have something to munch on but I sneak stuff in into the movies because everything at the movies seems to be SUPER SIZED.

It seems even when I am at home in front of a tv to watch a favorite show it is in my head to have my lunch or dinner in front of it. I keep reading that is a bad thing. Sometimes I believe it being a bad thing. I had once try to stop having my lunch or dinner in front of the tv. old habits die hard. as they say????

I wish I could stock my fridge with Pink Lady apples. I miss those apples. I guess I will have to wait until they come into season around here because they don't stock them year around. There is a bag of small or baby tangerines I love to buy. they are very tender, sweet and juicey and they are another thing that is only stock in season around here. They aren't like any other tangerines that I have bought.

Here latey I been thinking about these huge grapes. I think they come from chili. I haven't seen them lately but they have crept into my mind.

I am naming fruits that I can't even get my hands on right now. AAAGGHH my delima's

I totally understand triggers.
If we go on a road trip, all I want is fast food cause I am on vacation mode and beacause, it's just what we used to to.

That quote is so true! Are you loving the book?

Baseball games trigger my cravings. I know when we go that I'm going to be seeing waffle fries with cheese, hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, soft pretzels. I totally understand! It's sooo hard.

Have you also read French Women Don’t Get Fat by Mireille Guiliano?

My friend loves the book so much since she can still enjoy her food and lose weight at the same time.

:D

To inspire others, I also linked you up in my post reviewing the book.

What a great tip, so true! I'm never going to think that rice cakes are yummy, no matter how often I eat them. So why bother? It's a waste of time and money.

I've missed reading your blog :) That tip is so true! I keep buying fixings for salads and just keep throwing them away cuz I'm just not a salad type of girl. Can't wait to catch up on your archives and see what you've been up to!

Sarah I'm the same way - there are certain things that totally trigger me wanting certain food items. All summer my dad and I got up early on Friday and Saturday mornings to hit garage sales, and always got out Starbucks drinks first. Now anytime we go somewhere in the morning together, I totally crave that and want it so bad!
Also when my ex and I moved in together orignally, we bought all these Stargate SG-1 DVD's and watched them every night and almost always got Wendy's nuggets. It was a weird phase. Now anytime I buy a new TV season on DVD, I totally crave Wendy's!
